Speaking
ARE you the organiser of a literary event, from a writing circle or a college course?
I'd be delighted to come along and share tips and insights into the realities of freelance life.
You can see what student journalist Dave Lee had to say about my talk at the University of Lincoln here. In March 2008, I spoke to the United Nations Youth and Student Association on how to get your views into print. There is a very lengthy report about the talk here. UNYSA past president, Luke Harman says: "I'd like to extend my warm thanks to you once again for participating at the UNYSA-UK Conference. "Your presentation really did make such a valuable contribution to the day, and the amount of discussion that it inspired after the conference was testament to just how much it was enjoyed by all. "I have no doubt that you have opened the eyes of many of our members, highlighting to them just what the possibilities are when it comes to raising the profile of their campaigns. Thank you once again." I also recently spoke at Market Drayon Writers' Group. Author Mary Williams says: "Linda - it was great to meet you and thanks once again for giving us your time and encouragement (not sure which is most important!) I've ordered the book and have already emailed a couple of pitches....See what you've done!"I've also spoken to members of the Guild of Health Writers about breaking new markets and to students during careers days as well as to charities on how to boost their PR. I am a new addition to the media training team at The 101.
Interviews on various topics, including blogging, twins and trying and failing to losing weight, (that's about a million times) have been broadcast by regional and national media, including Sky, BBC World Service, Radio Five Live, Central News and Radio WM.
Watch this space for news of more engagements including at writers' groups.
