BIRMINGHAM City University online journalism lecturer Paul Bradshaw has organised a second JEE Camp after the success of a first event last year - and tickets are selling fast.
Paul describes the event, at The Gatehouse, The Bond, Fazeley Street, Digbeth, from 10am on May 8, as being for anyone interested in news, from entrepreneurs to bloggers, developers and those involved in social media.
The event's Facebook page explains: "It is an unconference, which means no endless parade of speakers, and no predetermined agenda. It's a self-organising event, so you decide the agenda (via a wiki) and the focus is on providing the space and time for those with valuable experience and ideas - attendees - to talk to peers."
With attendees including Robin Hamman, Joanna Geary, Craig McGinty, Laura Oliver and Sarah Hartley, this promises to be a fantastic opportunity to meet and learn from some of the UK's finest journalism innovators.
Paul adds: "Attendees might have launched their own journalism project - or worked on one within a mainstream organisation. Or they might just have lots of great ideas, or knowledge about the area."
I've confirmed my place and am really excited about the opportunities the day will bring. It costs £20 to attend, and Paul says tickets are selling fast. But he suggests that if any journalists who have been made redundant might like to come along, then there are limited free spaces available.
I hope my experience of moving from a staff job at a newspaper to a position of running a company may be of use to those attending and looking for practical advice on how to start a business and keep a tight rein on its progress. Not as exciting as some of the other contributions but possibly an important discussion nevertheless, I'd hope.
