IT's a while since we've featured any freelance opportunities, and with news of more magazines closing, or being 'restructured' it's certainly not a great time to be a freelance aiming to write for print.
So what does a quick trawl of the internet throw up this rain-lashed Saturday afternoon? Well if you want to try your hand at limerick writing and fancy being rewarded in kids' books, head over and see what Paddington has to offer. Perhaps you'd prefer marmalade sandwiches. Thanks to Nick Daws at My Writers' Circle for posting details.
There are as ever, some decent openings advertised on www.journalism.co.uk - one is for a freelance finance writer and one is for charity specialists.
The following came through The Journalists' Directory at Response Source - sign up if you want similar alerts, but the editor asking here, has been inundated with pitches, I'm reliably informed. Get in touch with me if you want to give it a go, anyway.
Women's Health is looking for freelance health writers
Women's Health is a 128-page annual published in January for members of the WI in England and Wales. In the past five years it has gone from strength to strength offering features on subjects as diverse as Baby over 40, Beat the hospital 'superbugs', bladder problems and Ayurveda. Our emphasis is on
staying fit and healthy whatever your age. WI members enjoy learning about medical issues, complementary therapies, cooking healthy meals and keeping themselves fit. And please don't imagine the stereotype - belly dancing is as acceptable as tai chi! We want to hear from freelance writers who can provide well researched, readable features in all of the above categories.
This intriguing (is that the right word?) ad has been posted at JournoBiz. I hope it may be of interest to some of you, who are much younger and hipper than I am now or ever was. Good luck to anyone 'negotiating rates' if they 'find corporate culture abhorrent'...
