Can you help with a piece on giving editors what they want?

I'M working on a piece for a magazine on how you can build up a working relationship with editors.

It will include some dos and don'ts of how to communicate with editors if you want to continue to work for them.

While you should make sure you are known for giving them what they have asked for, by when they have asked for it, I'm also keen to stress that there's no need to be terrified of getting in touch...now, is there?

I'd really like to hear from editors and freelance journalists who can offer useful insights into giving editors what they want.
