Freelancing in the internet age
ALTHOUGH many people still seem to think the internet is still to blame for the decline of newspapers and journalism (although ignoring readers might be a bit higher up the list), I think it offers new opportunity especially for freelancers.
And a recent article by US journalist Mark Glaser on his MediaShift website provides a wide range of information, ideas and tips on how he established himself.
It is interesting to see how he progressed from writing columns and pitching ideas to mainstream newspapers and magazines before deciding to set up and launch MediaShift.
For me what is very interesting is the way he has used the tools of the new internet to establish his name, the "brand of you" as he describes it, to create his own publishing venture.
The article is based on a talk he gave to journalism students and is well worth reading, I'm sure it will get a few ideas and thoughts ticking over in your head. [Craig]
